About us

The department of Psychiatry at the UMC Utrecht is characterized by its progressive and innovative view on psychiatric problems, innovative and ground-breaking research, and equal research culture in which multiple perspectives are brought together and collaborate on research, innovation, and development with impact. The department is a breeding ground for researchers who creatively and enthusiastically, in co-creation with patients and clinicians, reflect on each other’s work and dare to question prevailing paradigms.
Innovation is the overarching focus under which several research- and healthcare-programs are based. The main goal of the Innovation group is to create a better understanding of psychiatric dysregulation and to realize impactful change and improvement in healthcare. Our research aims to reduce the burden of mental health disorders for our patients and society, with a shift from a hyperfocus on medication, to strategies that empower patients to recover.
