Endocrine oncology research group

Neuroendocrine tumors, Thyroid carcinoma, Tumor syndrome

Research aim

To improve diagnostics, treatment and outcome for children and adults with Rare Endocrine Tumors by interdisciplinary and international collaborative research.

About us

The research group Endocrine Oncology consists of 4 Principal Investigators representing the interdisciplinary approach, including adult endocrinology, endocrine surgery, nuclear medicine and pediatric endocrinology. Due to the rarity of Endocrine Oncology, a strong local collaboration between key institutes is incorporated in this Research Group; University Medical Center Utrecht, Wilhelmina Children Hospital and Princes Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology. Furthermore, together with the Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, we are an accredited ENETS Center of Excellence for patients with neuro-endocrine tumors (NET).
Within the research programs of these PI’s, focus is put on improving treatment and outcome of patients with genetic multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndromes, both differentiated and medullary thyroid cancer, adrenal tumors and NET. The UMC Utrecht is one of the leading European Centers (ENDO-ERN), including the development of European Registries, European Treatment Recommendations and Prospective joint international Studies. Collaboration is not only aimed for with the different professionals and disease specific societies, but also with the patient advocacy groups aiming for patient participation in the design and execution of our research as well as to improve information for and counselling of patients.
