About us

The department of pediatric urology at the WKZ (Wilhelmina Kinderziekenhuis) is a subdepartment of the department of urology at UMC (University Medical Centre) Utrecht. Pediatric urology focuses on diagnosing and treating all diseases of the urinary tract and genitals. The population consists of boys and girls up to the age of 18 years. In particular, the (rare) congenital defects of the kidneys, urinary tract and genitals are part of the expertise of our department.

Over the years, the pediatric urology department of the UMCU well-known for its innovative and thorough research. An important research branch of our department relates to voiding disorders and incontinence, a major social health problem. We also collaborate with the Princess Maxima Centre in the pediatric urological cancer research and oncological fertility. Besides this, we perform research in the field of urodynamics, often in collaboration with the Technical University of Twente. Finally, we are working on regenerative medicine trying to generate urethral plates in the laboratory. This would be a possible game-changer in the operative field of hypospadias treatment.

Our department is always looking for enthusiastic students who want to assist us in scientific research.
