Intracranial vasculopathies

stroke, cerebral small vessel disease. intracranial vascular malformations

Research aim

Our research focusses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of stroke and intracranial vasculopathies, including cerebral small vessel disease and intracranial aneurysms, with the ultimate goal to improve treatment strategies and prognosis.

About us

Our research has a strong translational character and combines genetics, epidemiology, neuropsychology, imaging, and clinical trials in a collaborative effort of neurologists, neurosurgeons, (interventional) neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, rehabilitation specialists, geneticists, and basic scientists. We aim to identify mechanisms of disease and offer new platforms to test treatment strategies. Our research has contributed to international standards for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of stroke and intracranial vasculopathies. We have developed prediction models for the risk of rupture of intracranial aneurysms, introduced new surgical techniques and developed innovative pre- and intra-operative diagnostic tools. We have a strong collaboration with national and international colleagues, and participate in various national and international consortiums, including CONTRAST 2 (https://www.contrast-consortium.nl/).
