Infectious disease modelling Utrecht

Mathematical models, statistical inference, scenario analysis

Research aim

Our mission is to use state-of-the-art mathematical and statistical modelling techniques to gain insight into the dynamics of infectious diseases in populations and to improve public health interventions for disease control.

About us

The research group focuses on mathematical modelling of infectious diseases. We use various modelling approaches to understand the dynamics of infectious diseases at the population level, and to evaluate the impact of interventions on disease incidence and prevalence. Data from various sources (e.g. surveillance data, clinical data, virological data, serological data) are combined in statistical evidence synthesis, which involves formal fitting of transmission dynamic models to several data sources. Our main areas of research over the past years have been in HIV, antibiotic resistance, and SARS-CoV2.
