Bacteriophages and phage therapy

Bacterial defense, Phagetherapy, Pseudomonas auruginosa

Research aim

We study the interactions of bacteriophages with the bacterial and human host. We specifically focus on those processes that are important in therapeutic application of bacteriophages.

About us

Within our group we focus on use of bacteriophages to treat bacterial infections from an applied and fundamental perspective. For clinical application we aim to set up magistral preparation of bacteriophages for personalized treatment. The fundamental research we study the mechanism that bacteria use to protect themselves to phage attack. We aim to understand the role of these defense systems in a clinical context. We study how these defense systems are regulated and how the affect microbial virulence and antibiotic sensitivity. This research is performed in close collaboration with the lab of Stan Brouns at TU-Delft.
