At UMC Utrecht, thirteen researchers have been appointed associate professors. These talented researchers were selected based on their academic achievements and qualifications in research, education, and management. This decision is supported by the research committees and the Promotions Advisory Council.
“The University Medical Center Utrecht aims to contribute to a society where healthcare innovation is central, and where we can compete globally with the strongest organizations, through nursing, medical, and translational research,” says Professor Louis Bont, Dean and Vice-Chair of the Executive Board of the UMC Utrecht. “Researchers at academic hospitals connect fundamental research, clinical applications, and innovation. This leads to better treatments and less Dutch dependence on foreign knowledge and technology.”
Associate professors play a key role in education, research, and healthcare at UMC Utrecht. Their daily responsibilities include providing specialized patient care. They also supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. They develop and coordinate education and mentor students in various phases. They also play a significant role in research programs and publish scientific research results. They also secure external funding for research.
The activities of these researchers within healthcare, education, and research are widely recognized and valued. Candidates can be nominated for associate professorships with one of six career profiles: Implementation Researcher, Clinical Researcher, Exploratory Researcher, Methodology & Technology Researcher, Academic Educator, and Valorisation Researcher.
This year, seven of the thirteen candidates will become associate professors with a Clinical Researcher profile. Three candidates will become Exploratory Researchers. One more will be a Methodology & Technology Researcher, and one Academic Educator has also been appointed.
