Rehabilitation, Engagement, Quality of Life

Research aim

We focus on autonomy and daily functioning of people with disabilities and their families. Together with experts by experience, we aim to contribute to knowledge that leads to better rehabilitation through research, innovation and implementation.

About us

Our research focuses on patients with chronic and complex conditions, and is primarily concerned with children and adults who have disabilities due to neurological disorders. Aligned with the UMC Utrecht “Connecting Worlds” Strategy, the ambition is to accelerate our research with a focus on three themes: Physical health, (Family) Empowerment and Cognitive Rehabilitation. Our interdisciplinary program of research focuses broadly on developmental and recovery trajectories, identification of individuals and families at risk for health problems (physical and mental), and interventions / (health)care innovation to mitigate those risks. We are dedicated to translating new knowledge into clinical practice and change practice. We have established close and productive relationships with local, national and international research partners and networks, including: Center of Excellence of Rehabilitation (Hoogstraat Revalidatie), Utrecht University (incl. Dynamics of Youth), HU University of Applied Sciences (physical therapy, speech-language pathology) and Fontys University of Applied Science in Eindhoven.
