Type of research

Molecular pathology and artificial intelligence to diagnose and prognosticate melanocytic tumors

melanoma, artificial intelligence, molecular

Research aim

Our research uses molecular techniques and develops algorithms by using articial intelligence to classify nad determine the prognosis of difficult to diagnose (ambiguous) melanocytic tumors.

About us

Distinct melanocytic tumors are characterized by genetic alteratons that increase with malignant progression. Molecular tools have improved objective classification of melanocytic tumors and still increase to do so. We aim to identify genetic alterations that improve classification, predict prognosis, and treatment outcome. This can reduce under- and overdiagnosis and optimalisation of treatment.
With artificial intelligence (AI) we aim to develop algoritms that can predict the genetic alterations without molecular testing which reduces costs and turn around times.
