Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance

Surveillance

Research aim

We aim to develop and improve surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, focusing particularly on automated surveillance using data collected during the routine proces of care.

About us

Within IDEAS we work on developing and implementing automated surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, both for local use as well as large-scale implementation in collaboration with surveillance networks.

As a coordinator of the PRAISE network (Providing a Roadmap of Automated Infection Surveillance in Europe) we strive to align efforts regarding automated surveillance within Europe, provide a knowledge base on this topic and do research on innovative solutions for automated surveillance. Our efforts target all types of healthcare-associated infections, including surgical site infections and bloodstream infections. Aside from surveillance of syndromic infections, we also work om improving methods for (early) detection of hospital outbreaks.

By improving surveillance methods we envision to improve their quality and usability whilst freeing up person time to implement prevention initiatives.
