Clinical Established Investigator grant for Mervyn Vergouwen

Stroke neurologist Mervyn Vergouwen received the Clinical Established Investigator grant of the Dutch Heart Foundation (Hartstichting). This personal grant allows him to expand his research group in the field of unruptured intracranial aneurysms over the next 5 years.

His research group is working on improving the prediction of the risk of rupture of intracranial aneurysms. He also co-leads the PROTECT-U trial (Prospective Randomized Open-label Trial to Evaluate risk faCTor management in patients with Unruptured intracranial aneurysms), which is the first ever randomized trial to investigate if a medical strategy reduces the risk of aneurysm rupture or growth in patients not undergoing preventive neurosurgical or endovascular aneurysm treatment.

Mervyn is really grateful with this grant. “We hope that this research will ultimately further improve care for this group of patients. Many thanks to the Dutch Heart Foundation and its donors!”
