Center for Translational Immunology

The Center for Translational Immunology (CTI) originated from a merger of 10 individual immunology research labs in the UMC Utrecht. The CTI harbours a mix of fundamental, translational and clinical scientists in close collaboration with clinicians, which unite to deliver world-class immunological research as well as education and training of students and young professionals.

The CTI plays a structural role in the education and training of undergraduate and graduate medical and biomedical students in the field of immunology. Our science represents the full continuum of fundamental science towards translational studies and finally clinical application of our work. To this end, we are supported by national and international governmental and charity funding as well as by collaborations with private partners.

Our vision

Harnessing the immune system to cure infection, inflammatory disease, cancer, and chronic pain

Our mission

Impacting people’s lives by

  • understanding the essence of life-long immune health, classifying and monitoring inflammatory diseases and identifying their treatable traits
  • developing immune-mediated therapy for infection, inflammation and cancer

How we work

  • we foster team-science; we prioritize team goals, embrace diversity and cherish uniqueness of every individual
  • we work in multi-disciplinary teams of clinicians and researchers, stimulating the flow from fundamental immunological insight to improvement of care
  • we closely link education, research, diagnostics and care, and train students and professionals to obtain a broad career perspective
