(Pre)clinical research for cerebrovascular diseases

At the UMC Utrecht Brain Center, we conduct (pre)clinical research focused on patients and their treatment for cerebrovascular diseases. This includes studies on individuals with stroke, unruptured intracranial vascular malformations, vascular cognitive impairment, and neonates suffering from hypoxic-ischemic brain damage.

‘Cerebrovascular diseases’ is an umbrella term that includes various subtypes, such as ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral small vessel disease, carotid disease and neonatal stroke. The interdisciplinary research approach, with involvement of clinicians, basic scientists, technology experts, and epidemiologists, provides optimal conditions for translation between research and health care, which can expedite implementation of scientific evidence into clinical practice. Our mission is to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases through integration of basic, translational, clinical and epidemiological research with state-of-the-art methods.
