About this technology

About

Expertise in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) the assess (patho-)physiological processes in skeletal muscle.

We develop protocols for both qualitative and quantitative measurements of skeletal muscle covering either whole-body or localized body regions.

Qualitative techniques include imaging of fat infiltration and oedema. Quantitative techniques involve

  • Dixon imaging to assess muscle fat fractions and muscle volumes
  • T2water mapping to assess oedema, denervation and inflammation
  • Diffusion tensor imaging to assess muscle microstructure and architecture
  • Imaging of motor unit activities and rest and during electrical nerve stimulation.
