Biography
Yvonne van der Schouw obtained an MSc degree in Human Nutrition at Wageningen University and a PhD in Epidemiology at Nijmegen University, and is an SMBWO-registered Investigator in Epidemiology as well as Nutritional Sciences. In 2008 she was appointed as Professor of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care of the University Medical Center Utrecht. In 2001-2002 she was a visiting associate professor at the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, MA, USA. From 2008-2019 she was director of the Julius Center research program on Cardiovascular Epidemiology. From October 2019 to October 2021, she was Quartermaster Prevention for the UMCU strategic research program Circulatory Health and the Julius Center.
Her main research program focus is the role of diet and nutrition in prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases. She also participates in research unravelling the role of (female) reproductive risk factors in occurrence and progression of cardiovascular disease.
