Talitha Spanjersberg

PHD Candidate - OIO

Biography

In November 2021, I started as a PhD candidate at the department of Cardiology supervised by Frank van Steenbeek and Magdalena Harakalova as my co-promotors and Folkert Asselberg and Jolanda van der Velden as my promotors. My project is part of the DCVA Double Dose consortium, a collaboration between 5 academic medical centres in the Netherlands. This consortium aims to unravel the mechanism by which cardiomyopathy-causing mutations lead to ultrastructural changes in cardiomyocytes. My role in this consortium is to look at the influence of vasculature on the cardiomyocytes during heart failure.

During my Veterinary Medicine studies, I discovered the great potential of translational multi-species studies. The opportunity to impact different levels such as human and veterinary health and societal aspects inspired my decision for a career path in translational research.
