Biography

Janneke de Man-van Ginkel is Associate Professor Nursing Science at the University Medical Center Utrecht. She worked as a nurse and a clinical nurse specialist from 1995-2007. During the last year of the Masters’ Nursing Sciences (Masters degree obtained in 2008), she started with her PhD research focusing on early detection of depression after stroke (defended 2012, Utrecht University). She obtained her Master of Science degree in Epidemiology at the University Medical Center Utrecht in 2011.

The main focus of her research is on optimizing patients’ recovery and participation in society after an (acute) disabling disease, such as stroke. To achieve this, she focuses on two distinct but reciprocal research areas: a) maintaining and restoring independence in the daily life and promoting physical functioning, and b) preventing or reducing the psychosocial disorders that impede recovery.

Since 2014, she is the program coordinator of the Masters’ Nursing Science, program of Clinical Health Sciences, University Utrecht (annual graduation forty to fifty students).

She is fellow of the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS) and member of the Dutch Nurses' Association, the European Stroke Organization (ESO), the European Association of Neuroscience Nursing (EANN), and the Honour Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). In 2016 she was selected for a prestigious Leadership program for Nurse Scientists.
