Assistant Professor

Biography

Daniela Cianci has several years of experience in clinical trials, both in industry and academia. Since 2018, she has been working at the Clinical Trial Methodology Group within the Department of Data Science & Biostatistics at the Julius Center. In her role, Daniela focuses on clinical trials design, methodology and analysis. Additionally, since 2023, she has been offering methodological support to the RSV group.

Daniela earned her a master’s degree in Biostatistics from the University of Milan Bicocca (Italy), after which she moved to the Netherlands to join a PhD program at the Theoretical Epidemiology Group at Utrecht University. During her doctoral studies, she worked on a European research project exploring components of diseases transmitted by vectors like mosquitoes and ticks. Her work involved applying statistical models to investigate vector ecology across different geographical scales.

After completing her PhD, she worked as biostatistician at Danone Nutricia Research. Here, she contributed to trials addressing infant growth patterns, allergy prevention, and microbiome evolution. Subsequently, she held roles at the Medicines Evaluation Board (College ter Beoordeling van Geneesmiddelen) as a methodology assessor for EMA Scientific Advice Procedures and Centralized Procedures for Marketing Authorization. Additionally, she collaborated with the Princess Maxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, contributing to early-phase clinical trials.
