Research aim

Our group aims to empower people living with, or at risk of, non-communicable diseases (e.g. stroke, heart failure, musculoskeletal disorders) to achieve sustainable movement behavior change for secondary prevention.

About us

Movement behaviour across the 24-hour day — including physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep — plays a major role in chronic disease outcomes. Our research focuses on developing personalized secondary prevention approaches that help people with chronic conditions adopt and maintain healthier movement behaviors in daily life. We develop personalized interventions and e-coaching technologies tailored to multimorbidity, functional limitations, motivation, health literacy, cognition, and social context, helping people achieve sustainable movement behavior change.

Within our research group, the main research topics are:

  1. Understanding 24-hour movement behavior, sustainable movement behavior change, and the underlying mechanisms of movement behavior interventions for secondary prevention.
  2. Innovation, effectiveness, and implementation of movement behavior change interventions for personalized secondary prevention.
  3. Development and evaluation of intelligent monitoring and e-coaching technologies to support movement behavior change and enhance secondary prevention.
