Neuro-oncologist Tatjana Seute has been appointed professor at the Chair of Collaboration in Care for and with Patients with Neuro-oncological Disorders effective February 1, 2021. From the beginning of her work as a neuro-oncologist at UMC Utrecht in 2006, multidisciplinary care for and with patients with neuro-oncological disease has been her main task. “I am very happy that the content of the chair may be as it suits me and my team,” she said.
The goal of the chair is to take the care of patients with neuro-oncologic disease to an even higher level. Tatjana explains: “The multidisciplinary work that focuses on the patient’s well-being is now well designed. But there are areas for improvement, such as involving the care chain and network. The next step is to make patients teammates in and outside the consultation room.”
One of the principles here is “deciding together = understanding together. The patient must understand the medically substantive considerations as best he can, but equally important is that the doctor intrinsically understands the patient’s considerations. For that, you have to look for the person behind the patient. In addition, the goal is to work from patient sounding board to patient participation. Another goal is to move from performance-based care to value-driven care. The definition of “value” cannot be made without the patients. Also in terms of shaping continuing medical education, Tatjana will work to make patient participation more prominent.
Tatjana Seute studied Medicine at the University of Maastricht. She completed her training as a neurologist in 2006 at the MUMC (Maastricht). Since April 2006 she has been working as a neurologist/neuro-oncologist at UMC Utrecht. From 2015 to October 2020, she was medical head of the Neuro-oncology care line. Since 2018, as Educator of Neurology, she is ultimately responsible for physicians specializing in neurology at UMC Utrecht.
