Utrecht Platform for Organoid Technology

About

Utrecht Platform for Organoid Technology (UPORT) is a central facility within the UMC Utrecht that supports the generation of ‘living biobanks’ of healthy and diseased human tissues. Such biobanks are typically generated using organoid and induced pluripotent stem cell culturing technologies. UPORT has provided a logistical infrastructure for rapid and standardized acquisition of human tissues, based on approved protocols for patient inclusion.

UPORT aims to promote disease modeling with fresh human tissues by:

  • Providing a standardized infrastructure for tissue acquisition and processing
  • Providing an annotated catalogue of all generated living biobanks
  • Providing hands-on support in setting up state-of-the-art culturing technologies. Organizing courses and activities

UPORT has provided over 3000 tissue specimens derived from a wide variety of organs to many researchers within and outside the UMC Utrecht since 2014
