Sebastiaan Veersema

Prof. dr. S. (Bas) Veersema has completed his training as a gynecologist at the VU Medical Center Amsterdam and the St. Elisabeth Gasthuis in Haarlem. After his education, he followed a fellowship in reproductive medicine and endocrinology at the VU MC in Amsterdam.  From 1991 specialized in benign gynecology and minimally invasive and innovative techniques, with in particular the treatment of endometriosis, myomas (fibroids), polyps, heavy menstruation, contraception and problems with caesarean scars and problems after Essure sterilization (removal of Essure). He has been working at the University Medical Center Utrecht since 2016, initially as Head of Department for reproductive medicine and gynecology. From 1 August 2018 as Medical-Scientific Manager of the division Woman and Baby. In May 2019 he became professor in benign gynecology.

In 2014 he defended his Thesis at the Free University of Amsterdam on the subject: Hysteroscopic Sterilization. He is the patent holder of a surgical instrument to cut during delivery and the patent holder of a thin hysteroscopic shaft.

In the past, he was a board member and treasurer of the Dutch Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (NVOG), secretary of the Gynecological Endoscopy Working Group (WGE / NVOG) and various other working groups and committees of the NVOG.
