Early life stress, induced by the Limited Bedding and Nesting (LBN) mouse model, disrupts the blood brain barrier (BBB). We found that after LBN exposure, the BBB was more leaky in these pups. Specifically, the lateral septum and striatum were affected and in these brain regions we also observed lower expression of the tight junction protein Claudin-5. Later in life we found that LBN exposed pups were less social and exhibited deficits in reward learning; these behaviors are linked to the affected brain regions.
