The Human Genetics of Host-Microbe Interactions group, in collaboration with Marjolein Hensgens (Infectious Diseases) and coworkers at RadboudUMC (Nijmegen), was awarded a ZonMW Open Competition grant of €975.000. Staphylococcus aureus bacteriemia (SAB) is a serious infectious disease, but it remains unclear why some patients become severely ill while others do not. The ENDO-SAB project will investigate if this variation can be explained by differences in the immune responses (immune endotypes). The project builds on the Staphylococcus aureus Network Adaptive (SNAP) trial, for which UMC Utrecht acts as sponsor in Europe. Amongst others, the funding will be invested in a biobank containing patient samples.
